Contrada Palui
A VERY SPECIAL TERROIR
Contrada palui is a small organically run estate with a very special terroir: high altitude vineyards at 500-530 meters above sea level. on top of one of the hills behind Verona. It is a very sunny and also ventilated position, with interesting thermal excursions, which increase the fragrance of the grapes.
The soils are very interesting because, in addition to the classic limestone, there are many blocks of basalt and flint. In the Paleolithic period, the flint from this hill was used to make tools.
Finally, where today there are vineyards, formerly grazing meadows extended. In respect of this origin of the land, organic management was chosen in order to reduce the impact as much as possible.
The wines that are born in contrada palui reflect this particular terroir, they are fruity and floral, complex and at the same time vertical and delicate, savory and with a nice underlying minerality. They are natural filtered wines that are the result of a gentle and very careful vinification that aims at minimal interventions, using various containers in the refinement: the classic wood of various sizes but also red and white terracotta amphorae to best express the fruity and floral notes of the native grapes of Valpolicella.
